About Lone Star Bed and Breakfast
We had been looking for over nine months at different properties, finally settling on this home in the Texas Hill Country, near the Highland Lakes. Johnny Despain, a local builder, built the 6500 square foot home in 1978 for his family and it has remained largely unchanged, passing through several owners before we bought in it 2004 from Bill and Agnes Neusch. After the purchase, we set about converting it into a bed and breakfast. What we thought would only take six months turned into two years, as we removed paneling and retextured walls, replaced carpet and flooring and went about the task of furnishing a 6500 square foot house for our guests. All of this while maintaining two full time jobs! As the pictures can attest, we believe our efforts paid off, creating an elegant, sophisticated retreat within five miles of Burnet, Texas.
In addition to the home, we purchased and began raising registered Texas Longhorns. Tom and Mary Beth Peoples of the Quail Ridge Ranch in Burnet, helped us get started and to this day, we regard them as the experts in all things longhorn as well as our best friends.
Suffice to say, Lone Star Bed and Breakfast Ranch has quite a few animals, including a resident Blue Lacy named Lucy, various cattle, Gus, the donkey, Oreo and Java, the two cats that don’t seem to want anything to do with mice, and our most recent addition, Ricci, a miniature dachshund.
You might see a lot fun activity on the weekends as Lone Star Bed and Breakfast Ranch is used for quite a few of the social events of our church, Church at the Epicenter, here in Burnet. Our guests are always invited to join in whatever activities are taking place, and many have.
